The FAA Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant will be utilised toward renovating Taxiway D, a heavily used taxiway to the terminal apron that has exceeded its service life. The renovation project will begin in October 2012 and is expected to complete by fall 2012.
The Airport Improvement Program (AIP) provides $3.35 billion in annual funding for projects that are vital to maintaining the safety, capacity and environmental stewardship of the airports in the US. More than 3,300 airports are eligible for AIP grants.
Columbus Municipal Airport has two runways. The Atterbury-Bakalar Air Museum is also featured at the airport, where the military history of the Airport is preserved and displayed. The museum features memorabilia from WW II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
