The Maplewood 2 extension replaces an out-dated Chestnut Drive accommodation. The project involves development of a 33,000 square feet space for 32 patients with learning disabilities. The facility will accommodate four residential flats, day services, and psychology facilities.

The facility will be enclosed by a secure garden. The building will be developed with a minimum footprint on the environment. The scheme will be highly insulated, and is rated ‘A’ for its low energy consumption.

The roof of the facility will be laid with solar panels that will lower its carbon footprint. The power generated by the solar panels will be transmitted to ground source heat pump, which will quadruple with each 1kw of electricity generated by the panels.

Construction on the scheme is set for completion by mid 2013 and will involve a capital expenditure of £7.1 million ($11.41 million). The Maplewood 2 extension is being constructed by John Turner Construction Group.
