Located just south of the Howard University Library on 4th Street, NW, the $70 million contract has been awarded to the US-based Clark Construction by the Campus Apartments.
The new residence halls will include approximately 1,360 beds in 700 units, including two-person semi-suites for students and independent apartment units for faculty and staff.
The project team will also build a seven-storied building with brick and metal facade accentuated by punched windows at 4th and College streets.
Like the first hall, the second residence hall located at Bryant Street will feature similar exterior elements. The six-storied residence hall will include common lounges on each floor with laundry facilities, a game room, and a kitchen area located on ground level.
Clark Foundations will perform the support of the excavation work on the project. Both buildings are designed to achieve LEED Silver certification. The project is scheduled to complete by August 2014.
