Said to be the largest conference facility in eastern British Columbia, the centre has been designed to exceed BC energy-efficiency standards by more than 30% and is constructed entirely from local BC timber.
The 24,000 square feet facility will provide meeting space for conferences and house the Kimberley Alpine Training Centre, built specifically to enhance para athlete alpine skiing. The athletic training facilities for the Kimberley Alpine Training Centre (KATC) include a fitness center, changing rooms, a wax room, and a large pre-function area. Its conference rooms can accomodate 500 people in theater-style seating or 350 people for banquets. Four break-out meeting rooms are also available.
KATC will also feature space with a dedicated FIS-homologated race run on Dreadnaught for training, camps, or races. Equipment such as gates, drills, radios, timers, fencing can be rented, with a full race management and crew available for race production.
Located adjacent to the base of the North Star Express chairlift, the new centre is owned by Resorts of the Canadian Rockies with additional contributions from Columbia Basin Trust, the city of Kimberley and federal and provincial infrastructure grants.
