The six-acre park will contain the UK’s largest city centre water feature and include fountains, walkways, lighting and sound effects. The City Park will be a vibrant public space for people of all ages to enjoy, with areas for rest, play and relaxation.
The City Park will feature the mirror pool. The pool will be the largest city centre water feature in the UK. It will reflect and showcase the Grade 1-listed City Hall and will be one of the prime attractions of Bradford. The pool will be around 22cm or 8 inches in depth at its deepest point, becoming shallower to the edge of the pool. There will also be a central fountain which will spout water up to 30 metre in the air.
The pool would be laid out in a manner that would facilitate draining of water to host large concerts, carnivals, markets, sports events and theatre productions. The pool will also be home to over 100 fountains and will have light, sound and mist effects. It will be made of granite and other high quality materials, which is durable for use in events when dry and becomes a non-slip surface when wet. The total size of the pool would be around 4,200 square metres.
The Park’s design will comply with the Disability Discrimination Act. Sufficient space will also be provided for one-off events taking place.
