The campus is being constructed to expand the size of the school’s facilities, which are currently located on Charlotte’s west side. The project includes 10 floors in the 27-storey, Class A Charlotte Plaza building, representing a total of 195,976 square feet. The new development will allow students easier access to Mecklenburg County and federal courts, law firms and businesses in the centre city area.
The project also includes the demolition and uplift of retail spaces on the first and second floors of the Charlotte Plaza building as well as the complete demolition and build-out of the fourth through eleventh floors.
Upon completion, the new facilities will house all of the law school’s students and facilities, including classrooms with tiered seating, office and administrative support spaces, mock courtrooms with jury deliberation rooms and a state-of-the-art law library on the fourth and fifth floors. Adding to that, it will also feature a monumental stair, which will connect the law library by serving both as a visual and functional transition between the floors.
Founded in 2006, Charlotte School of Law is an ABA accredited, private institution that is part of the InfiLaw System of independent, community based law schools. Charlotte School of Law is committed to serve the underserved, creating practice-ready lawyers and to student outcomes.
The Charlotte School of Law is expected to occupy the building by early August 2013. Balfour Beatty is the general contractor for the project.
