Upon completion, the new 640,000 square feet children’s pavilion will feature 72 exam rooms, a surgical area with two operating rooms and two procedure rooms; areas for diagnostic testing, imaging; and laboratory services. It will also feature an attached parking garage with more than 600 spaces.

With design by HKS Inc. and construction by Skanska USA Building Inc., it will also feature technologically advanced clinic pods to provide efficient multidisciplinary care. Each pod will include 12 exam rooms, a treatment room, support space and a centralised clinical team hub.

The pavilion has been built adjacent to the existing Children’s Pavilion, across the street from the VCU Medical Center, to bring the majority of outpatient pediatric services under one roof, which are currently spread throughout the medical campus.

The pavilion is set to open in the summer of 2015.
