The three-phase $1.2 million reconstruction project, which commenced on 16 March 2010, is led by New York-based construction and design firm Parsons Brinckerhoff. The project that will result in five remodelled smart class rooms is expected to give a boost to the learning environment of the 60-year-old campus.

Phase one of the AA Building project involved renovation of five of the downstairs classrooms and two bathrooms. The project reached completion on 13 August 2010. Soon after that, the second phase of the remodelling project started, which includes tearing down old Skills Center in AA-213, and construction of upgraded math department offices and tutoring centres in its place. The speech department will also be relocated to the AA Building. The third and final phase of the project is designed to make all the upstairs bathrooms compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The second floor of the building has been renovated and enhanced to accommodate the math department. As a part of the efforts to convert pre-existing classrooms into smart classrooms, DVD and VCR players, projectors and computers are placed on the audio and video equipment racks.

Four buildings that have already undergone renovation are: the Student Services Center, the Library and Learning Resource Center, the Computer Technology Center and the Automotive Technology Center. The Music Building will also undergo refurbishment by early 2011.

The remodelling project is expected to reach completion by mid-November 2010. The remodel is part of the first phase of the college’s Facilities Master Plan, a long-term plan outlining the changes in infrastructure on the campus. The cost of construction will be paid by a bond measure passed in 2002 to fund the remodel of several buildings on campus.
