The Crossharbour District Centre project will be developed at the heart of the Isle of Dogs and is being supported by Ashbourne Beech. It will offer a 150,000 square feet supermarket, a further 130,000 square feet of retail space, 10,000 square feet of community space and up to 850 residential units.
The scheme will also include a basement car park that can accommodate up to 770 passenger vehicles; and a 1,000 cycle-parking space and public open space. Almost 31% of the residential units will be affordable housing units. The scheme enjoys connectivity to public means of transport.
The design of the development will mimic a hill-top town setting. The residential units, which will be a cluster of flats and houses, will be set on a podium level. The podium level will be adjusted around and on top of the big boxes, and will be accessible from pedestrian streets. The campanile tower is likely to evolve as the new landmark for the city.
Subject to the approval of the Mayor of London, construction on the scheme is expected to begin in 2013.
