Washington-based graphic designer Nova Creative Group designed the mural installed in the building’s atrium, above the security checkpoint. The mural features the images of Wilbur and Orville Wright, which are connected by four planes to represent the evolution of flight from the historic Wright B Flyer to an unmanned aircraft.

The Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur, were two Americans credited with inventing and building the world’s first successful airplane and making the first controlled, powered and sustained heavier-than-air human flight, on December 17, 1903.

The mural replaced a former piece that marked the 100th anniversary of the Wright brothers’ pioneering demonstration of powered flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina in 2003.
