The new contemporary expo area in Turkey is designed to meet all professional and technical needs of an exposition complex. It displays a strong and significant architectural approach displayed by the topographical, natural and climatic inputs of the place.
The architects did not make use of steel space truss structural elements and metal roofs while constructing the large halls. The city of Izmir is enriched with the sea and landscapes, and the architects wanted the building to complement the topography of the site and the texture of its surroundings.
The ecological building structure features eight exhibition halls of 10.000 square meters each, which mainly leads the structural formation of the complex. These halls are planned to be approximately 140x70x10m prisms built up with a structural grid of approximately 25x25m, that will bear the green roof. The immense size of the 1,17,000 square meters building is combated by covering spaces with ribbons of green roofs.
The halls are placed at different levels depending on the slope of the site. Other main functions integrated in the complex are conference center, hotel and parking lots. The only periscope unit of the complex is the hotel that lines up one edge of the site. Other buildings are all planned to be underneath the green roof.
Founded in May 2004, EAA while at architectural design process, considers interpretation of context in a wider sense. A flexible architectural expression is pursued on the basis of a definite conceptual background.
