The interiors have been designed to celebrate Australia. According to the designers, the design has laid more emphasis on Melbourne’s local natural environment – the river estuary, rather than the usual clichés associated with the country.
The space is resonant with eccentric furniture and dark timbers which represent the Australian landscape and waterways. Clusters of lights hang above tables and chairs that are covered with local Melbourne designer Ross Didier’s kangaroo skin hide design.
The restaurant is known for its classic French cuisine by multiple award winning chef Shannon Bennetts. Vue De Monde also secured a Sustainability Advancement Award from the Australian Interior Design Awards 2012. It was announced as Australia’s first carbon neutral restaurant and is recognised for its sustainable strategies.
Vue De Monde, which started in a 40-seater terrace building in Carlton, has come to be known as one of Melbourne’s finest restaurants. It is currently located on the 55th floor of the Rialto building in Collins Street, Melbourne.
