Designed by ADP Architects, the facility would be designed as an ‘icon of the industrial north,’ marrying functionality and adaptability with design and sustainability.

Cath Richardson, interim Chair of Energy Coast UTC said: “The design will provide a modern and high-tech environment to deliver technical and academic study, educating the next generation of engineers and skilled construction workers for the Energy Sector. Their design is innovative but complementary to the UTC’s neighbours ENERGUS and Energy Coast Construction Centre.”

It will be constructed in the land adjacent to ENERGUS art training and conference centre at Lillyhall with the students to benefit from facilities of sponsors GEN II Training, Lakes College, the University of Cumbria that has a gateway in the ENERGUS building and Britain’s Energy Coast Construction Skills Centre.

Planned cycleway and footpath created on the site will make accessibility easier.

The Energy Coast UTC will offer a new technical and academic (including GCSEs and A Levels) education for students in energy, engineering and construction disciplines.

Students can join at either age 14 or 16. The facility will cater to people from across Allerdale and Copeland.

The construction work is anticipated to start in October 2013 with the facility scheduled to open in September 2014.
