The stadium not only hosts Wrexham matches, but is also home to rugby league side North Wales Crusaders, hosting more than 80 games a year. This has taken a toll on its playing surface which can be enhanced further. The University will apply for funding to renovate the playing surface which will cost an estimated £150,000 ($228, 510).

Overall refurbishment work would include new and improved drainage and irrigation facilities. The University and Welsh FA are exploring funding options to extensively renovate the pitch in time for the beginning of the 2014/15 season.

However, a report earlier commissioned by Glyndwr University from the Institute of Groundsmanship stated that the pitch is in good condition despite the volume of games it hosts. The study also stated complete reconstruction will carry high risk in terms of cost and disruption to both clubs’ playing programmes, and advised renovation or an intensive end-of-season maintenance programme.
