The new 20-storied tower courthouse will replace the currently existing west judicial parking garage at 201 SE Sixth St. in Fort Lauderdale. The courthouse will be 741,000 square feet in size, which will be nearly double its existing capacity. The oldest section of the current courthouse is about 400,000 square feet and consists of the West and Central wings, which house 38 courtrooms.

The new courthouse will feature 77 court rooms with room to expand, a 500-car secured parking garage with improved security screening areas and a layout that will make it easier for visitors and employees to get around.

The building will be built to meet LEED energy standards. It will be reinforced with concrete and steel to withstand the test of time.

Construction of the project will be completed in phases with the new courthouse and East Wing renovations to be completed in 2015. The new parking garage will be finished by 2017.
