Hanesbrands granted over $100,000 funds for renovation and new medical machinery for the clinic. Medical equipment purchased includes medical instruments, diagnostic machinery, delivery room machinery, dentist chair and beds.

Apart from funds, the hosiery apparel marketer also provided volunteer services. Nearly 200 employees of the Winston-Salem-based company spent over 2,000 hours to help renovate the facility. They helped in landscaping, cleaning and painting the 22-year-old clinic.

Dr. Doug Ririe and Dr. Chris Christakos, physicians from Winston-Salem, teamed up with Hanesbrands’ volunteers during the health fair which was conducted on February 20, 2009.

Edwin Zamora, vice president of operations, at Hanesbrands El Salvador, says, “Volunteers representing El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and the US came here to help meet the needs of our people and our community. The project has been a very rewarding experience for all of us.”

Work on the two-month long refurbishment includes remodeled cafeteria and bathrooms, new plumbing facilities, new cabinets, new electrical wiring and a new roof. Two cribs and five beds were added to the renovated maternity wing.

The San Juan Opico Health Clinic provides healthcare services to over 2,500 patients per week, including newborn babies and expectant mothers.
