Dubbed as Heart Institute Life Support Capital Project, the new building will augment the cardiovascular capabilities of the UOHI, whist maintaining its position as the largest and foremost cardiovascular centre in Canada.

The project involves renovation of the existing basement and upgrades to the site. It will address existing space constraints and help plan for future growth. The development cost of the new facility is estimated to be about CAD120 million ($120.43 million). Construction is scheduled to get underway in 2014.

The Heart Institute is a bilingual academic health centre which provides a complete range of integrated cardiovascular services, including invasive and non-invasive diagnostics; and comprehensive therapeutics such as interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, cardiac surgery, cardiac transplantation and rehabilitation to over 1.2 million residents in Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec and Nunavut.
