The project involves increase in the seating capacity from 29,493 to 36,990, and demolition of five existing stands and a portion of the Victorian housing behind the current pavilion building, to give way to new staff accommodation behind one of the five new Herzog & de Meuron designed stands.

The existing Mound Stand and Grand Stand, Future System’s media center, and the Great Gates will be retained. The practice has also designed four permanent floodlights for the ground and a new entrance to provide year round access to the site.

The project will also see a new underground complex underneath the current training ground housing a new cricket academy, gym, sports injury clinic, pool and squash courts and provide a new home for the Lord’s library and shop.

As revealed in a national daily, a large portion of the scheme involves creating private flats around the edges of the ground which could sell for an estimated price of up to GBP1.2 million ($2 million) each, to fund the project.
