The ground breaking ceremony for the Valley Brook residential scheme at 1100 Airport Road will be held in July 2010. Designed by KTGY Group Inc., headquartered in California, the new residential development will provide transit-oriented workforce housing for local employees and their families.
KTGY has offered a mountain-Victorian style design to Valley Brook, reminiscent of the mining heritage of the Colorado Mountains. This architectural design enables the structure to seamlessly integrate into the aesthetic fabric of the neighborhood.
The housing scheme will be spread over 4.5-acres and will encompass 42 two-story for-sale town-home units ranging in size from 1,150 square feet to 1,384 square feet. One of the most notable elements of the development will be its eco-friendly design, and is aimed at attaining Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)–Silver certification.
The project will be embedded with a range of sustainable features. The buildings will be equipped with solar photo-voltaic panel systems and ENERGY STAR appliances and light fixtures. High-grade energy efficient windows, water-saving fixtures including high-efficiency dual flush toilets, low flow faucets and shower heads, low- Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) paint and adhesives, carpets made from a high percentage of recycled content and a community recycling program are some other sustainable features. Each home will be installed with passive radon mitigation system, high efficiency hot water heaters, and indoor air quality exhaust system. Native species plants and trees will be used for landscaping, which requires less water.
The Valley Brook town-homes will feature large two-car tandem garages, attic storage, front porches and entries. The pedestrian-friendly site plan also provides a one-way loop road.
