The new terminal features a new entrance gate which is double the length of the existing gate in addition to a new waiting hall and a waiting lounge. The new terminal will be capped with a roof imported from South Africa which will keep the terminal interior cool by preventing passage of heat inside. The roof will also provide a clear view of the exterior.
The new terminal will be equipped with three escalators to facilitate direct access to aircrafts from the terminal building. Two luggage routes are also being developed to allow smooth passage of passenger luggage from the lounge to the terminal.
The airport will also see the addition of two high rise security towers to ensure security while CCTVs will be installed across the main airport building and the premises. The parking facility at the new terminal will have a capacity to accommodate about 500 vehicles. Construction of the terminal’s main building is in the final stages with work on the lounge, waiting hall, landscaping inside the premises and installation of air conditioners almost completed. The terminal is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.
