The new JW Marriott at Gateway of Machu Picchu has been built on the grounds of Colonial Monastery. The hotel has been built on an altitude of 11,154 feet above sea level at the gateway of the Andes mountain sanctuary Machu Picchu, making it the highest-altitude hotel by the company.

The hotel has been built around a colonial church and boasts ancient Inca artifacts, which were found on the site. It will feature archaeological exhibits found during excavation work, which dates back from Pre-Hispanic to Colonial. The property will also feature contemporary cultural superimposition. The project has utilised some of the original elements of the site. A case in point, is Pirka Restaurant of the hotel, which features an original colonial wall from the convent.

The hotel’s portfolio consists of 153 rooms and suites, which feature luxury bedding, high speed internet, 42 inch plasma TV, alarm clock with iPod/iPad docking station and a coffee machine. The hotel is also the first property of the brand to have an in-room supplemental oxygen system to alleviate altitude adjustments.

The other onsite amenities at the new JW Marriott comprises two restaurants – Pirka Restaurant serving modern Peruvian cuisine and the Qespi Bar & Ninna Sonnco lounge, a foreign currency exchange office, retail stores, a fitness centre and a 3,300 square foot spa with dry saunas, steaming rooms, and a relaxation pool.
