The Nancy Reynolds Elementary School committee’s initial plans were to renovate the school, but plans have been altered thanks to the feasibility study prepared by Ersoy Brake Appleyard Architects of Winston-Salem.

The feasibility study has suggested three options, including replacing the school with a new one, demolishing everything except the gym and a front wall, and build behind the front wall, or tear down everything but the gym and build a school in the same footprint with an exterior that is similar to the old school.

The appearance of the building will be that of the old Nancy Reynolds but the features will be that of a 21st-century building, says school superintendent Stewart Hobbs.

The $9.4 million project will construct a 50,000 square feet facility which is far bigger than the current school. The project is expected to be completed by August 2011.
