The extension project includes the improvement and relocation of the hospital’s intensive care facilities and children’s wards into a purpose-built three-storey unit.
The facilities include an intensive care unit with 16 beds and two isolation rooms, and an integrated paediatric unit with a total of 32 beds including surgical and medical wards. Apart from that the extension also includes a paediatric assessment unit and high-dependency facilities.
Targeting for BREEAM Excellent rating, the facility includes various sustainable features like Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP), which will provide low carbon heating and cooling and a 150kW woodchip Biomass boiler which will generate carbon-neutral energy.
UK-based construction company Interserve constructed the project.
