The firm is one of the state’s largest design companies. It was given the five awards for projects completed in 2008.

These include excellence awards in healthcare design for Meriter Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Wisconsin, which was designed to be “technologically advanced and family centered”. To create the environment, the design started with a greeting desk that provides concierge services and a sun-filled family room that provides space for the whole family with a lounge area, fireplace, computer access, kitchen and children’s play area. Curved accent-colored flooring inlays and associated ceiling soffits were used in corridors to provide clear graphic direction.

The infant care area was arranged with 23 private infant rooms clustered around three nurses stations. Rooms for twins and triplets address trends in multi-infant premature births.

Each infant room offers families a comfortable and quiet environment with state-of-the-art lighting, temperature controls and mobile tablet PC technology. A day-bed allows parents to sleep next to their infants in what is known as kangaroo care. To prepare for the trip home an over-night room is provided and designed with all the qualities of home in mind.

Plunkett Raysich Architects also received awards for several other US projects, including the NorthPointe Terrace, Roscoe, Sun Prairie West Side Community Service Building, Sun Prairie, Tri-North Builders Corporate Headquarters in Madison and Holy Family Parish in Woodruff.

“We are pleased our peers have honored us again this year,” said Michael Sobczak, partner of design for Plunkett Raysich Architects. “IIDA upholds the highest standards in the profession, and this competition always gives us something to reach for.”

Plunkett Raysich Architects specializes in architectural planning and design of corporate/commercial, health care, educational, long-term care, civic and religion facilities. The firm has offices in Madison, Milwaukee and Northbrook.
