The owner of Little Bookworm, Mrs. Chen Zhang, wanted the store to create a magical wonderland where kids can play and explore, and acquire a lifelong love for reading. Pompei A.D. took the store concept design inspiration from Mrs. Zhang’s vision of a little bookworm living in a forest.
The team envisioned a space that features vignettes of a little bookworm’s home – where he lives, plays, eats, etc. The different areas in the bookstore such as the book corner, the Storytime area, the mezzanine level, the arts and crafts area, a café, and the event space all reflect and portray those vignettes.
The design enables guests to experience simple elements of the little bookworm’s everyday life in an exciting, magical atmosphere. The store has an extremely vibrant and colourful palette. Rainbow LED lights on the exterior of the store welcomes guests while bright colours encapsulates interior elements, via carpets, fabrics, and translucent acrylic.
Little Bookworm store has been designed to guide children in a unique way and and establish a social platform for parents to learn and share. The store sells books, toys, and related products to kids aged 0-12.
Little Bookworm opened on 15 January 2013.
