Since 2011, the phased refurbishment and improvement work is being carried on the Grade 2 listed Rosendale Primary School in south London.
Within a limited budget, the first phase of improvements includes the remodelling of four classrooms. With a special focus on the Victorian features, the first phase has restored the best of them and made them relevant for a 21st century classroom. Creating a harmonious environment, the refurbishment has provided an enhanced learning atmosphere.
Allowing the space to be used more efficiently as well as freeing up circulation to other areas, the second phase of improvements included the refurbishment of the Key Stage 1 WCs, consolidating them into a single unisex block. The second phase also allowed the involvement of the children with an artist to create decorative wall-mounted ceramics to the communal handwash areas. Work on the third phase already began in 2013.
Rosendale Primary School is also using a low carbon toolkit to identify the sources of its carbon emissions, comparing these emissions with other schools across Europe, and taking actions to reduce them.
