The project, which would coincide with the summer holidays beginning June, will include replacing the roofs, old windows and boilers, improving insulation, replacing worn flooring and renovating bathrooms and other areas of the building to make them meet with the Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
The project also includes adding space for eight classrooms, expanding existing kindergarten classes which will eliminate existing first-grade rooms, moving art classroom and adding extra classrooms for future growth, including the possibility of creating a four year-old kindergarten program.
The majority of the project is focused on upgrades and improvements for energy efficiency.
In June, 2009 voters have approved a $6.5 million referendum for this project. Magill Construction of Elkhorn was given a $4.7 million contract to complete the majority of the work.
Work will still be continued after students return to school next year, as the construction schedule arranged to cause the least disruption to students.
