HMSHost, provider of food, beverage and retail services for travelers, has commissioned Schmidt Design Studio to rebuild the Hickory Run Travel Plaza. Schmidt Design Studio worked in collaboration with Vitetta Architects and Engineers, to fashion a warm and inviting atmosphere for the restaurant’s interior.
The design team has used an attractive mix of colors and patterns to make the interiors both visually interesting and inviting. Schmidt’s team derived core design inspiration from the enormous open ceiling. The ceiling’s expansive space is incorporated with a rich, orange hue for instant drama, which is continued through tones of reds, oranges and golds throughout. Warm earth tones and simple lines are also featured. The seating area has been designed in such a way as to imitate the scheme in the booths’ back upholstery, the two-tone tables, and the chairs’ mixed colouring.
Besides the dining area, Hickory Run travelers can enjoy spacious, luxurious family restrooms. The design team has used a linear layout to stretch the entire space. Intricate mosaic tile work sketches out huge vanities and a consistent tile pattern also runs through the entire plaza.
Schmidt Design Studio is a professional interior design firm specialising in restaurant and bar interiors, as well as other hospitality and corporate spaces. With offices in Orlando, Florida, and Oklahoma City, the team has worked extensively with nationwide brands, franchises and upscale independent restaurants throughout the US.
