The $11.5 million, 50,000 square feet building will be located to the east of Southern Utah University’s existing Science Center. The brand new four-level building is designed to accommodate departments of biology, nursing and physical science, classrooms, supply areas, labs, museum and a green house.
Eco-friendly construction practices will be followed to make the facility ‘green’, with the officials aiming for LEED-Silver certification.
The building is integrated with advanced mechanical and electrical systems as an attempt to educate the users regarding state-of-the-art technologies. Energy-efficient mechanical systems, lighting controls and recycled materials have been incorporated extensively into the design. The building’s exterior façade is designed to harmonize with the existing Science Center.
Major construction activities are scheduled to be completed by April 2011.
