The expansion will include a two-storey structure comprising a 13-bed emergency department in the ground floor, a radiology suite along with an expanded registration section. The second floor will consist of a 32-bed medical surgical floor having private patient cabins. Extra refurbishments will also be carried out within the current structure of the building owing to the relocation of various departments into the new building.
The project has secured $18.1 million in low-interest loan from the US Department of Agriculture. About $16.9 million has been set aside for the 59,000 square foot expansion whereas renovation work in the second phase will receive a loan of $1.2 million.
Located at 1333 S. Sam Houston Boulevard in Houston, the hospital expansion is considered to be the largest in the 53-year span of the building’s history. The entire expansion project is scheduled to be ready by 14 months. Other related refurbishments are due to start after the completion of the new construction which is expected to be over within eight months.
