It will remain unclear when construction will begin until planning permission has been granted from Haringey Council according to a Northumberland development project spokesperson.
“It is too early to say when the construction will begin as we are still some months away from submitting our planning application to Haringey Council,” they said.
The new stadium was announced in November 2008 as part of a Northumberland project that intended to increase the capacity to 60, 000 spectators.
The augmentation comes as the existing stadium, with a capacity of 36,000, has not been refurbished for over a decade.
The enlargement is imperative as there are 70,000 registered club members and a waiting list for season tickets of around 22,000.
Daniel Levy, Chairman of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club said the new facility would provide new public spaces, homes and employment in addition to the new stadium.
The Northumberland Development Project would deliver a world class scheme and substantial new investment for Haringey and our supporters. It represents a significant step in the growth of the Club, with a proposed stadium capacity of 60,000 and would provide state-of-the-art facilities, important public space, new jobs and homes and a significant boost for the local economy,” he said.
An in-depth consultation process took place in November 2008 as the public were invited to an exhibition of designs over a number of dates.
Designers involved in the project include international engineering consultancy Buro Happold, KSS who worked on the City of Manchester Stadium, UK architectural firm MAKE, and international landscape firm Martha Schwartz Partners.
The design will work around the current stadium to ensure sporting and economic activities remain unaffected while the construction process takes place.
