Housing 2,400 students from the departments of communication, design, culture and language, the new building has been created with a distinctive design.

Designed as a low-energy university with innovative solutions in the field of energy consumption and indoor climate, the building will not be connected to the district heating network. The indoor climate is regulated by a heat and cooling pump system, which uses groundwater for both heating and cooling.

Exhibiting a triangular shape in its design, the Kolding Campus features a façade, which forms an integrated part of the building. Together with the building’s shape and massing, the façade provides varying expression.

Inside, it features a five-storied tall atrium. The displaced position of the staircases and access balconies create a spatial dynamics where the triangular shape is repeated in various rotations and scales throughout the floors.

The new campus for the University of Southern Denmark in Kolding celebrated the topping-out ceremony on 8 April 2013. The new building is scheduled to complete in the summer of 2014.
