Built in June 2010, the USO Center caters to more than 7,000 troops per month. With an anticipated increase in troop numbers, a remodel was expected for a long time. USO Centers are places dedicated especially to US soldiers and their families where they can relax and socialise while waiting for flights.
The remodeled centre spans over 900 square foot and is located in the Arrivals Terminal of the Columbia Metropolitan Airport. It features computer stations and Wi-Fi access, Xbox 360 video gaming systems, large screen TVs, and books to entertain troops during long layovers. It also features new flooring and furniture along with snacks. Open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., all programs and services offered are free to troops and their family members.
The renovated centre was funded by many organisations such as the Armed Forces Family Foundation, Moore Quality Builders, Valspar Paint, Solid Surfaces, Inc. and the Columbia Metropolitan Airport.
