Located at the Museumplein, the renovated museum has created more opportunities for visitors to discover for themselves, using aids such as microscopes and touchscreens on how Vincent van Gogh worked.

Before the re-opening, the work Self-Portrait as a painter, one of the exhibition’s highlights, was put in place. Van Gogh at work illuminates the painter’s development with some 200 works by Van Gogh and his contemporaries.

Dutch paints and coatings company AkzoNobel will act as a partner for the museum’s restoration studio for a period of three years. It will also advise the museum through its premium brand Sikkens on innovative and sustainable paint products for the museum’s interior design.

The museum opened with the jubilee exhibition Van Gogh at work, which will be on view every day until 12 January 2014.
