Owned by the Corsair Marine International Company, the shipyard is located on the banks of the Saigon River and according to published media reports there are five yachts getting ready for export to countries around the world.
Though Vietnam was a favored destination for yacht racing in the past, workers at the shipyard rue the fact that most buyers are not aware that their acquisitions were actually manufactured in the same country.
Each of the five yachts under construction at the shipyard now is about 12m long and 10m wide and has room for between five and seven people. Their buyers are from the US, Holland and France.
Officials at the shipyard, who have exported six yachts so far in 2009, confirmed that while a yacht of the same size would cost about $250,000,in Vietnam it costs only half as much. Prices range between $50,000-90,000 per yacht.
