Dailai Conference Hall is part of a residential resort named Flamingo Dailai Resort. It is located in the middle of forests between Dailai Lake and Tam Dao Mountain. Dailai Conference Hall is located beside the main access road, which is used as an entrance for the whole resort.
The conference hall is cleverly hidden behind a curved stone wall along the road, which was designed to serve as receptionist of the hotel. According to the architects, there is a tradition to make rustic stone walls in North Vietnam, and they incorporated that tradition as a part of the beautiful landscape.
The wall, which is 80-meters long, 8-meters high and 1-meter thick, offers a sequential view to visitors, revealing and screening the surrounding nature from place to place. Built using dry stone, the wall curves gently around the edge of the building, which shields the interior from the road and protects it from the noise of a restaurant across the street. New earth mounds have been created around the edges of the wall that serve as steps. An orthogonal tunnel-like entrance has been created between the artificial hills of the stone wall, which leads to a foyer covered by a dynamic bamboo structure.
The interior of the bamboo framework is designed as a row of trusses that follow the curve of the facade to support the asymmetric roof above. The architects chose locally sourced ‘Luong’ bamboo for the structure, which was more common in the north side of the country. Grey brick walls line the interior and white pendant lights hang down from the ceiling. Inside, the conference hall space is divided into specific rooms such as a main hall, sub hall, foyer and supporting rooms. The dynamic bamboo structure lends a spacious feel.
