European foamcoated furniture and design company ‘sixinch’ has worked with architect Jamie Fobert to create the unique ‘dragon’ for Gallery 6 / the Flip Flop Room. The new shoe space called ‘Selfridges Shoe Galleries’ was opened on 23 September 2010.
Sixinch’s furniture has helped in giving an extra dimension to the store. Working with Jamie Fobert, sixinch has created 28 loose seating blocks to feature in one of the rooms of the store’s new shoe space. The seating installation is a long fibreglass form snaking through one of the high street label shoe rooms’, creating display podiums and arches to walk underneath that is described by Fobert as a ‘green dragon’.
An Decock, managing director of sixinch stated that each gallery is designed as totally different, using contrasting materials to create dramatic displays with a real sense of grandeur, luxury and drama. sixinch’s foamcoated blocks offer a contemporary seating option in a totally unique material.
Jamie Fobert describes the green dragon as a powerful visual object playfully running across the salon with different levels for display and seating. An arch through which people can walk through is also featured. The white perimeter forms a background, almost as part of the wall, attracting attention on the products and the central piece.
Selfridges’ women’s shoe department is located on the store’s second floor. Officially opened on 23 September 2010, the newly created ‘Shoe Galleries’ will display around 5,000 pairs of shoes at any one time.
