The 4,848-square-foot structure’s interiors and exteriors will be renovated to reflect a ‘forever young’ theme and a more contemporary appearance, a change which is already reflected across the other McDonald’s chains across the country.

The renovation project involves a remodeled drive-thru operation, bigger dining area and addition of 1,500 square feet to the restaurant’s current space. To facilitate multiple orders and ensure smoother flow of traffic, a bigger two-lane drive-thru place will be built.

A police substation building situated at the back of the drive-thru lane will be torn down to make space for the expansion. The site will feature new landscaping and pavement.

The existing McDonald’s restaurant will be torn down. The whole process of demolition and construction is likely to be completed in three months. For the purpose of expansion and reconstruction, the building will be temporarily shut down this summer.

Randy Bebout of FRA Engineering, which is representing the fast-food chain, stated that the restaurant required renovation to create more capacity inside.

Even though the McDonald’s design layout has received authorization from the Planning Board, it may need authorization from the City Council to raze the substation. McDonald’s has subleased the property from the city.
