The winners were honoured in Chicago at the NKBA Design Competition Awards Ceremony, held at Center Stage in the NKBA’s Design Idea Center at the 2010 Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS).
Open only to NKBA members, the NKBA Design Competition recognizes the talent of kitchen and bath designers to plan safe and functional spaces. In 2010, the NKBA received 550 entries. A panel of NKBA-certified designers from all of the NKBA’s eight geographic regions of the United States and Canada judged the projects based on visual appeal and creativity, as well as principles of design, presentation, and safety and ergonomics, using the NKBA Kitchen and Bath Planning Guidelines.
The winners of the 2010 NKBA Design Competition in the small kitchen category are Thomas David Trzcinski, CMKBD of Pittsburgh, who was awarded the first prize; Second place was awarded to Jessica Williamson, AKBD, Newton and the third place went to Gerard Ciccarello, CMKBD Westbrook.
The second category was the Medium Kitchen where first place was awarded to James Howard CKD, CBD, St. Louis; the second place went to Tricia Bayer, Minneapolis and the third place was secured by Gerard Ciccarello, CMKBD, Westbrook.
Large Kitchen category winners were Peter Ross Salerno, CMKBD from Wyckoff, who won the first prize. The second place was awarded to Elina Katsioula-Beall, CKD Studio City, CA, while the third place was secured by Tina Lynne Muller, Glen Ellyn.
Under the fourth category of Open Plan Kitchens, Tim Scott from Toronto won the first prize. The second Place went to Wendy F. Johnson, CKD, CBD, Manchester Village, and the third place was won by Sandra L. Steiner-Houck, CKD Columbia.
The Powder Room category winners were Elina Katsioula-Beall, CKD, Studio City, who won the first place. The second place went to Erica Westeroth, CKD, NCIDQ, Toronto, and the third place was won by Adel Visser, CKD, CBD, CID, Sacramento.
Small Bathrooms category winners were Tess Giuliani, CKD, Ridgewood, who won the first place. John Sylvestre, CKD, Minneapolis, won the second place, and the third place was awarded to Leslie Lamarre, CKD, Burlingame.
The Large Bathroom’s category winners were Sandra L. Steiner-Houck, CKD, who won the first place. Elizabeth A. Rosensteel secured the second place and the third place was awarded to Barbara E. Murphy, CKD, CBD, Lake Oswego.
In the category of Master Bathroom, Ada Pagano, St. Petersburg, won the first prize. The second was awarded to Kenneth Kelly, CKD, CBD, CR, Williston Park, while the third place was awarded to Adrienne Dorig, CKD, Claremont.
The Showroom winners were Karen Black, CKD, Oklahoma, for the first place. The second place was awarded to Rosemary Merrill, AKBD, Minneapolis and the third place went to Rosemary Merril, Minneapolis.
In the Specialty Room category, Holly Rickert, Ridgewood was awarded the first prize. The second prize was awarded to Peter Ross Salerno, Wyckoff and the third place was secured by Peter Harms, Minneapolis.
