The Oak Ward is a 20-bed facility and has been developed by following the strap-line ‘more hotel than hospital’. It features 12 single bedrooms, each with a dedicated en-suite bathroom and two four-bed-bays, which allows patients to benefit from spacious surroundings.
Realising the hospital’s vision for patient and family centred care, it has been created to provide improved privacy and dignity as well as superior facilities.
The new surgical cardiac ward has been designed to provide a Patient and Family Centred Model of Care. Taking care of the comfort element of the patients, the wards feature bespoke bed-head fitment, which incorporate a combination of wardrobe, pull-out locker, drop-down relative’s bed, self-medication drugs cabinet and medical gases, and power and data outlets concealed behind sliding doors when not in use.
In addition, the fitment also includes low level LED lighting, which is activated by a sensor responsive to the movement of the patient’s feet.
The new Oak Ward was opened on 19 March 2013.
