Catering to college baseball players and fans, the stadium will feature four entrances for patrons, a 24,000 seating capacity including 1,000 club seats and 26 luxury suites and a Fanfest area with an open-air 360 degree walk-around concourse.
In order to keep in tune with the design of other buildings in downtown Omaha, the stadium’s exterior will feature a 32-foot high brick veneer. Close to the facility, there will be 9,000 parking stalls.
Local people can be abreast of the latest events occurring within the stadium, as glazing and openings at street level will be created. The total project will also require more than 5,000 square feet of retail space.
The Road to Omaha statue, which is currently situated at the corner of 13th and Cuming entrance will also be relocated.
The stadium will not only host college and professional baseball matches, but can also be used for special events and outdoor concerts.
Construction of the downtown stadium is expected to be completed by spring 2011, in time for the NCAA Men’s College World Series.
NCAA has signed an agreement for 25 years with College World Series of Omaha Inc. for hosting the former’s college series.
HOK Sport, HDR Architecture, Inc. and The DLR Group together designed the stadium. Construction will be supervised by Kiewit Building Group.
Several government officials including Governor Dave Heineman and Mayor Mike Fahey as well as NCAA and MECA (Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority) officials participated in a ground breaking ceremony to herald the start of stadium construction.
