Located at Camberwell New Road in London SE5, the Clarson House will consist of 103 flats and maisonettes. The residential units will be spread across four blocks that are arranged around a central courtyard and will range in height from three to five stories.
The residential units will be an assortment of social rented and shared ownership units. The development also includes 11 units for disabled residents and three commercial units at street level. A children’s playground has been featured in the centre of the square. The developer has offered 57 layout and 43 types of kitchen options.
The design of the building is in sync with the neighbouring buildings. The architect has used floor-to-ceiling windows with vertical insert timber panels to achieve vertical emphasis. This also allows natural light to permeate the inner spaces of the building.
The exterior of the building prominently features brick, which in addition to synchronising it with its neighbourhood, also cuts back maintenance cost and functions as an effective acoustic barrier. The principle corners of the site feature winter glazed gardens that create landmark features viewed from the main approaches as well as provide acoustic protection from Camberwell New Road.
The scheme has been built to meet the Code for Sustainable Homes level 3. The seeded parts of the roof features wild grass and bird boxes.
