The phase III of the Silverburn scheme involves development of an annexure of the Silverburn shopping mall, sprawling over a 75-acre site, which formerly housed Pollok centre. The annexure will be built on the western side of the existing shopping centre.
The annexure will replace the last remaining section of the original building located on the north-west corner of the site, in front of the Pollok civic realm. The new annexure will accommodate a multiplex cinema that will have a maximum capacity of 2,000. The phase III also involves development of new leisure and food venues within the centre and extension of the existing winter garden.
The project also involves development of a new entrance, which will divide the cinema box and establish a direct connection between public realm and wintergarden. The first floor above the new entrance will feature a cinema foyer, which will add vibrancy to the entire building. The elevation of the annexure will consist of fractured planes, which will add a unique identity.
Subjected to approval of the Glasgow City Council, construction on the site is expected to begin in 2013 and is planned for completion in 2014. The project is being developed by Hammerson plc, a UK-based property development company.
