Gold Coast’s new multi-million dollar Carrara Stadium will see 25,000 seats, with capacity to allow for expansion in the future. The stadium will showcase a single service stand on the western side of the ground, with a general admission stand to the east. The lower seating bowl is built on grade on the slopes of the redesigned earth boundary.

The stadium will feature Australian Football League’s (AFL) oval, capable of accommodating International Cricket Council’s (ICC) oval, International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Athletics field, and a Fédération International de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup soccer field, with facilities for 2,000 corporate patrons, including AFL team and officials’ changing facilities, AFL media facilities, team and officials’ suites.

Gold Coast City Council contributed $20 million, the Commonwealth Government $36 million, and the AFL $10 million for the new construction. The Queensland state government contributed $60 million, bringing the total project budget to $126 million.

Greg Kempton, managing director of Watpac Limited, said that Watpac has been involved in the construction and enhancement of the key sporting stadium projects throughout Queensland for over 26 years. Watpac managed the construction of Skilled Park at Robina, which is considered one of the best regional stadia in Australia.
