UK-based Dalziel and Pow designed the interiors and also the graphic and signage elements for the store, working in consortium with the Primark store development team.
The store design emerges as a relaunch of the design concept launched in the company’s Oxford Street flagship store. The Bristol store has a bullet shape that creates a narrow end for the store.
Dalziel and Pow illuminated the curved end of the store with LEDs that forms a grid of lighting along the contour of the curved building. Primark showcases its products across four stories of the building having 8,400 square feet of retail space.
The ground floor has a six meter high ceiling, which allows the creation of a combination of open ceilings and dynamic rafts. The lift and the central atrium feature a colored glass treatment, incorporating large illuminated store directories.
The central atrium also displays a new structural signage treatment, which combines colors and textures to create a dramatic frame for the escalator well, which ends in the second floor in a series of illuminated colored rectangles integrated overhead.
Change of display items on each floor is emphasized by different ceilings and lighting, changing from the high contrast black voids with floating white rafts, to the completely open ceilings featuring full spotlight coverage.
The lighting has been maintained at a low level with the directional sources creating an intimate experience.
