How were you commissioned?:
We were commisioned to design the Lounge Living Project as part of our long-lasting collaboration with Laurameroni for their furniture pieces and interior projects.
What was the brief from the client and how much were they involved?:
The client wished to have a display of the Laurameroni’s products and custom furniture as they would be used in a small size town apartment. With regard to the project they were very open and accepted our ideas; they were involved in manufacturing all interior furniture and lighting.
How did the brief affect the materials and design choices?:
We had to design a place with a distinct urban look; it had to appear both international for the overall feel and Italian in manufacture and materials.
How did your previous experience help you with this project?:
We are trained to design according to the briefing of companies and private clients; we study their needs very well before starting. Also our experience in product design details helped a lot in getting exactly what we had in mind.
Can you explain the layout of the project:?
The walls were not to be modified, so we worked with furniture partitions only. The layout provides for an entrance area open to the kitchen / library to the left and the living / dining to the right. All can be seem at a glance; nonetheles areas have their privacy and coziness. The bathroom and night areas are behind the small library.
What problems or challenges did you face?:
Time was one challenge, as we had to complete from concept to realization in four months. Another important issue was to display an interior capable to appeal to Laurameroni’s clients coming from all over the world.
What do you feel were the most unusual design elements of the project?:
The carved wood "Decor" cladding, which is the red thread of the project running along walls and ceilings, is the trademark of our design for Laurameroni and is the most important means of identification of the apartment design. This is followed by the sculptural furniture pieces such as the "Cirque" totem-like cabinets.
How do you think this project is pushing design forward? What makes it special?:
The approach which expands a small floor space, using the same language from kitchen to living and corridors. All is fluid. There are no service areas opposed to more important spaces.
