The 271 square metres of surfacing was laid in three contrasting colours; 190 square metres of Guyanan Bauxite, 72 square metres of Autumn Gold and nine square metres of Red Granite, to produce attractive and durable paving which would withstand heavy footfall from the school’s 1000 plus pupils.
The availability of a 10 year guarantee was crucial to the choice of product specified by Scandor Landscapes on behalf of Hampshire County Council. A resin bonded surfacing laid previously at the school had failed after just a few years, so Hampshire County Council’s brief included the stipulation that any surfacing product specified should be guaranteed fit for purpose.
The remaining failed surfacing was mechanically removed and unevenness in the substrate was made good by the application of RonaDeck Resin Bonded Pore Filler. RonaDeck Resin Bonded Surfacing was mixed with a slow speed drill and paddle and applied to the prepared substrate, this is typically done with a roller or squeegee and a notched trowel is often used to spread resin at edges. The aggregate was then cast into the fresh resin which was left to cure for four hours before removal of loose aggregate. The surfacing was then ready for immediate use, in time for the school bell.
When applied by a Ronacrete Approved Contractor RonaDeck Resin Bonded Surfacing is guaranteed for 10 years from date of installation against:
• General loss of stone
• Cracking
• Damage as a result of oil spillage or contamination
• UV degradation
• Colour change
