Sprawling over a 20 hectare site on the corner of Lake Kawana Boulevard and Kawana Way, the new Sunshine Coast University Hospital will be built in multiple phases. The phase I, which is scheduled for completion in late 2016, will deliver a 738-bed tertiary level hospital.
The facility has been designed in a way that it benefits from the maximum healing milieu of the region. The design of the facility enables it to offer maximum views of the surrounding landscape consisting of coast, mountains and river. The masterplan reveals interaction of the natural green with the building, which is likely to aid in patients’ healing.
The design of the scheme uses natural environment as the orientation for the facility and assist it to blend with that. Running from east to west are the visual links, which connects to the Kawana Town Centre and the natural surrounds. The globally dispersed building is connected by means of weaving central courtyard at the heart of the facility.
The project will be designed, constructed, maintained and financed as a public-private partnership between a consortium of Lend Lease and the Exemplar Health, Queensland Health. Financial close on the project is expected by the end of July 2012, after which, construction will commence. The entire project is scheduled for a wrap-up by mid-2021.
