The airport has six jet stands currently, with up to seven jet airliners on the ground during peak times. Three jet stands will be realigned and one jet stand will be built as part of the renovation project. The airport will also install runway lights from Europe to improve visibility for incoming pilots on cloudy days and help jets take off when the sun sets in winter.
The airport completed the installation of an 80m-long, 3m-high jet blast safety fence, at the western end of the main runway, in December 2010. The $800,000 fibreglass structure was designed to shield vehicles and pedestrians from blasts emitted by jet engines during takeoff. The new structure has replaced a basic earth bund.
Terminal building forecourt and car-parking enhancements will be carried out in the next two to three years.
