The facility, spanning 1.2 million square feet, is slated to be Canada’s largest LEED certification project for New Construction. The tower has been equipped with Sustainable Enwave Deep Lake Cooling System which helps in reducing cooling costs while the elevated flooring allows optimum energy savings and HVAC distribution. The facility incorporates indirect and sensor-controlled lighting systems which reduce energy consumption. There are also light shelves which further save energy by allowing maximum passage and reflection of natural light.
The building comprises exposed ceiling option which adds to the sustainability by reducing energy usage. The lower stories of the building have been fitted with energy-efficient operational windows while the podium levels have been fitted with sunshades. A total of four bi-fuel diesel generators supply emergency power for the facility with six fresh air changes every hour. The windows also feature fabric blinds to adjust the amount of exterior light penetration.
Other eco-friendly features include use of non-toxic materials during the construction process, and recycling of its construction debris. Presence of bicycle storage area boosts the green venture. The centre saves 40% of energy usage and 47% of indoor water consumption by employing sustainable measures.
